On 4 Aug 1898 Alfred Barnum, 22, Seymour, b. Ontario, Bachelor, Farmer, and Carrie Petherick, 20, Seymour, b. Ontario, Single, were married in Campbellford, Ontario.
Alfred and Carrie were married in the Methodist Parsonage. Their marriage took place less than three months after the bride observed her 19th birthday, while the groom was a week away from his 22nd birthday. The attendants were Mrs. Fred Johns, of Craik, Saskatchewan and George Kerr, Campbellford. At the time of their deaths they had celebrated 73 years of marriage. The couple farmed from the time of their marriage until 1956, when they retired and moved to Petherick's Corners. They had lived their entire lives in that community and had been active members of Zion United Church.
Oddly, there is a record in the Ontario archives that mentions the 60th Wedding Anniversary of Alfred Barnum and Carrie Petherick, and states that they were married on September 7, 1898
