A One-Name Study for the BARNUM/BARNHAM Surname
The date of the Illinois marriage record posted on the cyberdriveillinois.com and ancestry.com websites is most likely in error. The date is after the birthdates of all three of their children. The record states that the bride's surname is Wood, rather than Woods. The name of the groom is given as S. L. Barnum. The marriage did, however, take place in Warren County, Illinois where Seth's mother and sister Nancy lived at the time. Elizabeth J. Woods can be found living with her parents in the 1860 census in Warren County. Her date of birth is appropriate and her place of birth and surname match those reported by her daughters. A copy of the original marriage certificate has not been obtained, nor has this family been found in the 1870 census.
