From the Amenia Times, February 7, 1914: The burial of the late Mrs. Harriet Potts Barnum took place from the home Saturday, January 31. The service was in charge of the Rev. F .W. Beers of the Presbyterian Church in South Amenia assisted by J. M. Robertson of Amenia Union. The latter in a short address paid a fitting tribute to the life and character of the deceased. Mrs. Barnum was born near Hudson, N. Y., in 1833. Her mother's maiden name was Rockefeller. Mrs. Barnum was married in 1868 and from that time until her death was a resident of Amenia Union. For forty-three years she was a member of the Presbyterian Church in South Amenia. She was a member of the Dutchess County Female Bible Society and of Webartuck Grange. Her husband John D. Barnum, Sr., died in 1900 [sic; s/b 1898]. She is survived by two sons, Edward [J. Edmund] and John. Mr. and Mrs. William Barnum of Painted Post, N. Y. attended the funeral. Mr. William Barnum is a son of the late Mr. John D. Barnum by a former marriage.
