Mary Hawes Gilmore Barnum was born September 3, 1869 in Grinnell, Iowa and died October 9, 1955 in Los Angeles County, California. (California Death Index).

The Barnum Family, 1350-1907 calls her simply Mary Hawes.

Mrs. Mary Hawes Gilmore Barnum, DAR ID Number: 18692. Born in Grinnell, Iowa. Wife of Oliver S. Barnum. Descendant of Joseph Cheney, of Massachusetts. Daughter of Quincy Adams Gilmore and Ann M. Wilmarth, his wife. Granddaughter of Jonathan Munroe Wilmarth and Lucy Cheney, his wife. Gr.-granddaughter of Joseph Cheney and Susannah Wadsworth, his wife. Joseph Cheney, (1761-1834), aided in guarding the prisoners taken in the Burgoyne campaign. He was placed on the pension roll of Norfolk County, Mass., and died in Rhode Island at the home of his son Martin.
From The Independent, Pasadena, California, October 11, 1955: Mrs. Mary Gilmore Barnum, widow of Oliver Shepard Barnum, MD, passed away October 9. A retired educator, she was a native of Grinnell, Iowa, and had been a resident of Pasadena for thirty years. She was a sister of the late Dr. Marcia Gilmore of Santa Barbara and Jonathan Gilmore who lived with Mrs. Barnum and passed away in 1954. Interment Mountain View Cemetery.
