Notes for Francis Davenport BARNUM


Francis D. Barnum, age 22 years; enrolled at Charlton to serve three years in the 115th NY Volunteer Infantry, and mustered in as Second Lieutenant, Company "I", August 20, 1862; as First Lieutenant January 27, 1864; as Captain, February 1, 1865; transferred to 47th Infantry, June 17, 1865; commissioned Second Lieutenant, September 10, 1862, with rank from August 20, 1862, original; First Lieutenant, April 22, 1864, with rank from January 27, 1864, vice D. M. Kittle, promoted; Captain, May 17, 1865, with rank from February 1, 1865, vice D. M. Kittle, discharged. He was wounded at Crater, Virginia, during the Petersburg Campaign, and at Custer, Iowa. His brother, Henry Clay Barnum, was a lieutenant in the 83rd NY.
