A One-Name Study for the BARNUM/BARNHAM Surname
Fred C. Barnum was the second child of Merritt & Lucretia Hungerford Barnum. The Stowell Genealogy gives a date of birth of October 28, 1865 in Elmira, New York and calls him Frederick. The Illinois Death Index calls him Fred Clinton Barnum and indicates that he died February 14, 1939 in Whiteside County, Illinois. Â He married Ida May Stowell, daughter of John Albert Stowell and Catherine Z. Matson on September 27, 1888 at Unionville, Illinois. She was born in Fairhaven, Massachusetts on July 2, 1867 and died in 1945. Fred and Ida Barnum are buried in Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison, Illinois. (Gravestone pictures at Find A Grave.com).
Fred C. and Ida Stowell Barnum had one daughter, Winifred Viola Barnum who was born September 29, 1889 at Morrison, Illinois (Stowell Genealogy: A Record of the Descendants of Samuel Stowell of Hingham, Mass., by William Henry Harrison Stowell, The Tuttle Company, 1922, p. 764, #803 iii).
