Chester was with Company "K", 1st Regiment, Minnesota Volunteer Heavy Artillery during the Civil War. He enlisted as a Private 16 February 1865, age 26. He received a pension as an Army Invalid; Certificate No. 1102527.
He was buried in Section 236 of the Santa Ana Cemetery; 1919 East Santa Clara Avenue; Santa Ana, California.
