From the Mail Tribune, Medford, Oregon, Wednesday, August 30, 1944: Dr. Elbert W. Barnum, 57, well-known local dentist passed away at his home on North Oakdale avenue Tuesday evening after a long illness. Dr. Barnum had been a resident of Medford since 1933. Born at Minneapolis, Minn., on May 26, 1887, Dr. Barnum spent most of his early life at Pine City, Minn. He studied pre-medicine for two years at Hamlin University in St. Paul, and later studied dentistry at the University of Minnesota, completing his course at North Pacific Dental College in Portland. Obtaining his degree in 1912, he started his dentistry practice at Mt. Angel, Ore. On July 7, 1915, Dr Barnum and Miss Irene Sirginson were married at Spokane, Wash., and the doctor, with his family came to Medford in September, 1933. Dr. Barnum was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic church, the Medford Elks lodge, Chamber of the democratic Central committee of Jackson County. Survivors include his widow, three children, Mrs. Don Leonard of Berkeley, Calif., Robert E. Barnum, U.S. navy stationed at Del Monte, Calif., and Mrs. Al Helms of Medford; one sister, Mrs. R. L. Campbell of Spokane, Wash.; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart church.
Interment will be in Siskiyou Memorial park.
