From the Utica NY Oneida Morning of 27 January 1849: We regret to announce the death of another of our oldest and worthiest citizens—Levi Barnum, Sen., who died at his residence in this city, yesterday morning, at the age of 71 years. Mr. Barnum came to Utica, we believe, in 1805, and has ever since been a resident of our city. He was a man of high-toned honor, of unsullied integrity, amiable in character, and proverbially benevolent in his feelings and conduct towards his fellow men.
No man among us has been more generally or more deservedly esteemed, than Levi Barnum; and his death will be universally regretted. He was a good man, in every acceptation of the term; and the departure of such is a loss which falls not alone on his relatives, but which is felt by the whole community.
His funeral will take place at the Methodist church on Sunday Morning.
