From the Utica (N.Y.) Daily Press, Saturday, September 19, 1931: Frederick E. Barnum, 72, a native Utican, a bookbinder from the time he left school until his retirement two years ago and consequent removal to Lyons Falls, died at this home there yesterday. Fred E. Barnum was born in this city November 17, 1858 and was a son of George and Cornelia Christian Barnum. His father was a well known musician and band leader. He was educated in the Advanced School and as a young man learned the trade of bookbinder. He went in to partnership with Ludwig Simon and the firm of Simon& Barnum carried out the business for several years. …Mr. Barnum married Nettie Marsden of this city. He leaves besides his wife, a brother George N. Barnum, Utica and seven children, Mrs. Mildred Board, Lyons Falls; Edwin, Black River; Robert and John, Ilion; Charles, Roy and Arthur, Utica.
