From the Athens Post (Athens, Limestone, Alabama) - January 8, 1875: Printed in the Late News Summary column. South. "On the night of the 2d inst., Richard S. Barnum, of Lee county, Miss., his wife and two children and a little negro boy were murdered and their bodies consumed with the building. Such of the remains as could be found were taken to West Point for interment. Intense excitement prevails there, but no clue to the murderers." It is not known for certain whether this is the same Richard S. Barnum.
