From the Potsdam Herald Recorder of Friday, May 22, 1931: Jasper E. Barnum, one of the pioneers of this section, died at the residence of Mrs. Abbie Sullivan on Monday (May 18) at the age of 92. Mr. Barnum was born in Potsdam September 20, 1838 son of William J. and Louisa Fobes Barnum. For many years Mr. Barnum was one of the outstanding farmers of this section owning the Barnum farm on Morley Road. He married Miss Louisa (should be Olive) Sealy in September 1873. She died some years ago.
Mr. Barnum was a natural singer and in earlier years no musical entertainment was complete without him. For over thirty years he was a member of the Presbyterian Church choir and the old circulars of opera and musical affairs carry his name among the singers. He was a man of unusual vitality and was able to keep up and about the village until recently.
His mind was a storehouse of local events and he was often consulted on local historical happenings. Interment in West Potsdam, he is survived by one son George W. Barnum of this place.
