In 1904 he was a photographer in Cincinnati, Ohio. He had a studio at 638 Race Street, which he later moved to 6 West 7th Street. Many of the photos from his studio have been passed down to his descendants.
A photograph has been found, undated but obviously very old, which has an advertisement on the back as follows: Barnum New Photographic Art Studio, 26-1/2 South Market St., Springfield, O.
