Notes for Lewis Starr BARNUM

From the Putnam County Courier, Carmel, N.Y., November 28, 1940: The death of L. Starr Barnum, a former well-known resident of Brewster for many years, who was associated with various phases of the business life of Brewster, occurred Tuesday, November 19, 1940, at his home in Palatka, Florida where he had been a resident for several years. He was born September 27, 1856, in the town of Patterson, the son of the late George and Susan Durga Barnum, but the greater part of his life was spent in and about Brewster. In 1880, he married the late, Mary Elizabeth Paddock whose death occurred in 1923. Three children were born of this marriage. For many years Mr. Barnum was associated with his father-in-law, Warren Paddock in the feed and grain business in Brewster. Later this business passed to the firm of Eaton Kelley Co. Following Mrs. Barnum's death in 1923, Mr. Barnum remarried to Mrs. Catherine Smith, of Danbury, who survives, with three children, Mrs. Elizabeth Storm, of Brewster, two sons, Warren Barnum, of Peekskill, and George Barnum, of Danbury; also one sister, Mrs. Otis Durga, of New Milford. Another sister, Mrs. Louis Pugsley, Sr., of Patterson, N. Y., passed away quite recently. The body was brought to the Oelker Cox Funeral Home in Brewster, and committal services held Saturday afternoon November 23, at Milltown Rural Cemetery.
