From the Putnam County Courier, Carmel, N.Y., Wednesday, March 22, 1972: Warren S. Barnum, 75, of 95 Main St., Cold Spring, a leader in veteran and civic affairs in Putnam County and Peekskill for many years, died Friday in the Kent Nursing Home. He had been ill about 18 months. A licensed funeral director in New York City in his early life, Mr. Barnum had been an advertising salesman prior to retirement because of illness. He served as chairman of the Peekskill Civil Service Commission in 1958.
Mr. Barnum was born July 21, 1896, in Brewster, New York, son of Lewis Starr Barnum and the former Mary Elizabeth Paddock. He was the husband of the late Edith Moore Barnum. A veteran of World Wars I and II, he had been active with the National Guard and was a past commander of the Peekskill American Legion Post. He was a life member of Hebron Lodge of Masons in New York City and of the Putnam Valley Square Club. Mr. Barnum was a past president of the Peekskill Men's Club and was active for many years with the Boy Scouts, serving as camping and activities chairman in 1957.
He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Angelo P. (Barbara) Wellman, and two grandchildren Julie Ann and Brad Angelo Wellman of Youngstown, Ohio. The Rev. Ralph Morgan, pastor of the Peekskill United Methodist Church, officiated at funeral services at the E. O. Curry Funeral Home in Peekskill. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, New York City.
