Although it doesn't apply to this family, there is an interesting note about homesteading in Saskatchewan. In 1905, when homesteading was first allowed there, many men went out to claim their land. They promised to bring their families to live there once they were settled, and many men did -- or took their families with them. However, quite a few of those who did not found "dolly-birds" (camp followers) out there and their wives and children back home never heard from them again.
In the 1916 Canadian Census, Jack Barnum and his wife and sons were enumerated in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada.
'The Barnum Family, 1350-1907' gives his birthdate as 12 Oct 1859.
