Notes for Simeon BARNUM

Simeon Barnum joined Colonel Bradley's 16th Connecticut Regiment on June 26, 1776. He was captured by the British and died in prison at New London, Connecticut. There is some confusion about Simeon's age at the time of his death. The Genealogical Record of the Barnum Family says that Simeon was the first son of Benjamin Barnum (1736-1807), and died at age 40. If Simeon had died at age 40 during the Revolutionary War, his birth year would have been between 1735 and 1743, which is clearly at odds with his father's dates. Any children of Benjamin would have been only in their twenties at the time of the Revolution.
