On 3 September 1901, Samuel agreed to sell to Daisy E. McGuire a house and 16 acres of property. This was formerly the residence of Dr. David Barnum, at the corner of Saw Mill Hill Road and Route 37, in recent years known as October House. Daisy gave Samuel $1,500 as a down payment and agreed to pay a further $100 on 3 September of each succeeding year until the balance was paid, presumably on 3 September 1916. She also agreed to pay the taxes and insurance. She subsequently lived in the house, with her son Harry, and they had a very popular shooting range on the property.
Gravestone inscription: Barnum, Samuel, born 1824, died 1911.
