From the North Adams Evening Transcript, North Adams, Mass., Wednesday, July 20, 1932: Mr. and Mrs. James K. Ferguson, James Ferguson and Lawrence Ferguson of Commercial street have returned from Southbridge, where they were called by the death of Mrs. Ferguson's brother, Ernest Barnum, 55, of 418 Hamilton Street, that city which occurred on Friday (July 15) night at the New England Baptist hospital in Boston, following a 10 days' illness at that institution.
Mr. Barnum was born in Adams, attended the local schools and resided in this town until 32 years ago, when he moved to Lowell, he later went to Southbridge where he became the owner of a large grocery store and his remaining years were spent in that town. He had been in poor health for some time and death was not entirely unexpected. Besides his wife he is survived by a daughter, Miss Beulah Barnum of Southbridge, two sisters, Mrs. James K. Ferguson of this town and Mrs. Mary McAllister of Hanford, Conn., and two brothers, Charles N. Barnum of Indian Orchard and William H. Barnum of Berlin, N. Y.
Funeral services were held on 1 Monday afternoon from his home and burial was in Southbridge Cemetery.
