A One-Name Study for the BARNUM/BARNHAM Surname
It has been suggested that this Richard may have been a son of Levi Barnum (1762-1833) but his correct parentage has not yet been proven or documented. He has sometimes been confused with Richard M. Barnum (1797-1878), who was a son of Bethuel Barnum and Sarah Molineaux, but they are not the same person.
The family of this Richard Barnum lived in West Bloomfield prior to moving to Mendon and are in the 1840 census there, as follows:

West Bloomfield is just south of Mendon, and this family lived quite near the town border after moving to Mendon.
