From the New York Times, December 30, 1950: Richard L. Barnum. Richard L. Barnum of 221 East Seventeenth Street, a free lance financial correspondent, died yesterday, apparently of a heart attack, on the way to a, hospital after collapsing on the street near his home. His age was 78. Mr. Barnum syndicated his comment on Wall Street to a score of newspapers throughout the country until his health began to fail two months ago. Born in Louisville, Ky., he moved to New York at an early age and became a financial writer on the old New York Sun. He joined the financial staff of the old New York Evening Post in 1905, remaining with that paper for seventeen years. Later he was New York correspondent for The London Financial Times. Mr., Barnum wrote for The Boston Globe and The Springfield (Mass.) Republican for many, years. His wife, the former Martha Richards of Galveston, Tex., died in 1922. Surviving are a son, Bush Barnum of New York, and a sister, Miss Fayette Barnum of Louisville, Ky.
