Notes for Margaret BARNUM

Marguerite Barnum (called Margaret in the 1880 census), a daughter of Abram Goodsell Barnum and Nancy M. Southard, was born in 1876 near Ackley, Hardin County, Iowa. She married Henry Knuths, b. 1863, son of Fred Knuths and Dora Klaco on March 20, 1898 at Oakland Valley, Franklin County, Iowa. (Iowa Marriages). They had one daughter together, Bernice born in March 1899, according to the 1900 census for Blaine, Wright County, Iowa. Living next door were Olaf Dahl and his wife Rosalie, who was Marguerite’s sister. Henry Knuths married the widow Mary A. Peterson Wright on March 5, 1905 in Kossuth County, Iowa. They later moved to Oregon.
From the Palo Alto Reporter, Emmetsburg, Iowa, October 16, 1902: Mrs. M. Knuths, wife of Henry Knuths, died at their home in Cylinder, Iowa Thursday morning October 9th. Mrs. Knuths’ illness was of short duration and death resulted from blood poisoning. The deceased was born in Hardin County, Iowa near Ackley. On March 20, 1898, she was united in marriage to Henry Knuths of Galt, Iowa. They continued to reside there until January 1901, when they moved to Cylinder where Mr. Knuths engaged in the hardware business. The deceased united in her girlhood with the Presbyterian Church and throughout her entire life was an active worker in her Master’s vineyard. She leaves a husband, one child, four sisters and five brothers to mourn her loss. Her death is especially sad to her husband who is himself confined to his house by sickness, and to the child who in its tender years is left without a mother’s care. The funeral was held from the Methodist Church at Cylinder, Saturday. The interment was made in the Evergreen Cemetery of this city.
