A One-Name Study for the BARNUM/BARNHAM Surname
From the Charleroi Mail, Monday, February 7, 1938: Mrs. Sophia Jones Barnum, wife of former county commissioner A. P. Barnum, of Allenport, died in Mercy Hospital this morning, February 7, 1938. Mrs. Barnum was born in Allenport, December 30, 1869 and spent her entire life in this community. She was married there on October, 1889 and was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Allenport. She was widely acquainted throughout this section and was one of Allenport borough's most highly esteemed residents.
Surviving besides her husband are one son David R. Barnum at home; one daughter Mary J. Barnum of the Charleroi High School faculty and two sisters. Funeral services will be held at the late home in Allenport Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment will be in Monongahela Cemetery.
