A One-Name Study for the BARNUM/BARNHAM Surname
From: Utica Daily Press, Saturday, January 18, 1902: The death of Candace H. Barnum. widow of Seth Barnum, late of Whitesboro and Westmoreland, occurred Thursday (January 16), at the home of her son Francis M. Barnum in Elmira. Mrs. Barnum was 75 years of age and had been in ill health for some time. She was born in Whitesboro and there she passed the greater part of her life. She moved to Elmira about 18 months ago. Her maiden name was Candace H. Gibson. She married Mr. Barnum in Westmoreland where he was the proprietor of foundry. Mr. Barnum's death occurred thirty years ago. Mrs. Barnum was a member of the Episcopal Church in Whitesboro and during her younger life she was active in church and social circles.
There survive three sons, Francis Marion of Elmira, Hiram R. and Amos S. of Utica.
