Notes for George Samuel BARNUM


From the Wisconsin State Journal, Madison, Wisconsin, Saturday, January 23, 1943: George Samuel Barnum, 77, Monroe, died Friday, January 22, at his home. He was born in Jefferson Township, Green County, and was married September 6, 1885 to Samantha J. Holmes. He farmed for 17 years in Jefferson Township, was cashier of the Judge state bank for 15 years, organized the Jefferson Telephone Co. and moved to Monroe in 1917 where he operated the Monroe Oil Co. until 1936. He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church. Survivors include his wife; a daughter Mrs. R. J. Nyman; a sister Mrs. Caroline Miller, Hot Springs, Arkansas; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery.
