Notes for Stephen BARNUM


Stephen Barnum, Jr. was born in Litchfield, Litchfield Co., Connecticut, moved to Addison County, Vermont, and later to Lawsville (now Franklin), Venango, Pennsylvania. He died in New Milford, Susquehana, Pennsylvania.
From the Luzerne County Federalist of 13 Jun 1806: The Commissioners of the County of Luzerne will hold days of appeal on the levy for the year 1806 during the month of June at the following houses (a number of names and towns were listed following, including): Stephen Barnum, Lawsville.
At a Public Meeting held at the house of Jas. Scovell on Nov. 25th, 1806 for the purpose of taking into consideration the propriety of erecting a monument in memory of those Patriots who defended the Valley of Wyoming, during the Revolutionary War, Obadiah Gore, Esq. was appointed Chairman and Anderson Dana, Secretary. Stephen Barnum, of Lawsville, Pennsylvania, was a member of the committee.

Note: Living next door were the families of Stephen's sons Hiram and Horace.
