Daniel and his brother Thomas were both blacksmiths in Franklin, Vermont. After he married, Daniel moved to Stanbridge, Quebec for at least the 1871 census, which says the children were all born in Amerique (U.S.). By 1880, both Daniel and his family and his brother Thomas were in Woburn, Massachusetts, all living in the same house, along with Daniel's daughter Cynthia and her husband John Dixon and their two children. This census says that all of Daniel’s children were born in Canada, and that Thomas and Daniel are both blacksmiths. By 1900, Daniel and his wife were living with their son David and his family in Burlington, MA. Daniel's death record lists father as Hamen Barnum, born Danbury and mother as Mary Marcy born Winchester.
