An entry in New York: Albany County Deeds, 1630-1894 shows that Ashbell granted to Philip Malthauer and wife Wilhelmina, Lot 147, W. side James st., Green Island on May 28, 1887. The transfer was recorded on June 2 in book 384, on page 322.
From the Schenectady Gazette, Schenectady, N.Y., Friday, February 4, 1944: Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Griswold funeral home, Woodlawn for Ashbell Barnum, 95, who died yesterday after three months' illness at the home of his daughter Mrs. Margaret Brandt of 33 Fairfax Avenue, Niskayuna. Rev. Raymond Van Zoeren, pastor of Woodlawn Reformed Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the family plot in Oakwood Cemetery, Troy. The funeral home will be open tonight. He was born In Saratoga and had lived here 41 years. He had been an employee of the General Electric Co. 35 years. He was a member of the G.E. Quarter Century club.
He leaves three daughters, Mrs. Anna Howarth of Dryden, N.J., Mrs. Sarah Rysedorph of Green Island and Mrs. Elizabeth Abrams of Cropseyville; a son, John Barnum, of this city; 20 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren.
He was buried in Oakwood Cemetery.
