From The Enterprise, Afton, Iowa, August 18, 1881: BARNUM--Mr. L. R. Barnum, at his late residence in Afton, on August 28, 1881. Mr. Barnum was born in Enisburg, VT., July 13, 1809. He became a resident of Afton in March 1875. Since his arrival here he has been honored and respected as one of our best citizens. He was a member of the Presbyterian church at this place. Rev. Welty preached the funeral sermon at the above named church to a large audience, on Monday, after which the remains were taken to their last resting place in the Afton cemetery. All the ministers of Afton took part in the ceremonial services.
