He was named after his grandfather. While in Canada, Jehiel/Jehial spelled his name as Johial. He is listed on the 1889 and 1890 Omaha, Nebraska Business Directory as working for the Union Pacific Railway as a carpenter. Address 1423 N 23rd Street, Omaha, Nebraska. In the 1900 census for Omaha, his wife Marie is listed as a widow, living with her son Louis Octave Barnum, thus placing the death of Jehial between 1890 and 1900. He was supposedly struck and killed by a streetcar in Omaha, Nebraska.
Descendant Mary Ann Meeker wrote, on 20 Jan 2005: "I hope this [data that I sent] proves that Marie-Elise and Mary Alice are the same person. Marie Caroline is Maude and is listed as M. C. Barnum on the 1880 census for Omaha, Nebraska, age 6. Every census after that lists her as Maude. Attached is confirmation of their child Charles Gustave. The last child of Jehiel and Mary Morin was named Eunice (Anglican name) and so far I can't find records in Canada. She would have been baptized in the Catholic church under who knows what name. As I don't have her birth date, it is hard to pin her down. She is listed as their child in the family history written in 1935, but no birth date is given. She apparently died young, because she doesn't appear in the 1871 Canadian Census or the 1880 census in the US. I don't think Marie-Caroline/Maude knew her birthdate because in each census she gives a different date."
