Josiah was a prominent politician in Wyoming before being appointed by Teddy Roosevelt to the DC Circuit Court in February, 1906. At the South Entrance of the Main Treasury Building in Washington, DC, facing Sherman Park, stands a statue of Alexander Hamilton, the first Secretary of the Treasury. The area also is known as Hamilton Place. A replica of the program for the 1923 dedication of that statue appears on the US Treasury Department web site. It names Josiah Alexander Van Orsdel in two locations, as may be seen below:
