Abijah was Miami County Surveyor 1863-1867, Sheriff 1834, Clerk and Treasurer, Bedford Township, Cuyahoga County, Ohio. He is said to have been "landlord" of the Weddell House Hotel in Cleveland, Ohio. He was also supposedly involved in the "Bridge War" in Cleveland.
