The Barnum Family calls him Barnabus Barnum, and says he was son of John, son of Ebenezer (born 1712).
Obituary. Died. - On Tuesday, April 2d, 1895, at his home in Campbell Township, Barney, C. Barnum, aged 76 years, 7 months and 4 days. Funeral services were conducted at the homestead by Rev. George S. Henninger, on Wednesday afternoon, April 3d, after which the remains were interred in Vawter Cemetery. Thus reads the simple announcement of the death of one of Jennings county's most respected citizens, love and honored by all. Barney C. Barnum was born August 28, 1818, and has made this county his home continuously. When a young man he joined the Baptist Church and was a member at the time of his death. He married Miss Phoebe Ackerman, the marriage ceremony being performed by Samuel Wagner the father of the editor of the Journal. Eleven children being the result of this happy union, three of whom are now sleeping on the shady banks of the Muscatatuck, waiting for mother and eight brothers and sisters, when they with father can shout with the redeemed above, "Death is swallowed up in victory, O Death where is thy sting, O grave where is thy Victory."
Barney C. Barnum served for 30 days in the 9th Indiana Legion in 1862.
