From the Middletown (NY) Daily Herald, Wednesday, October 29, 1924: Nealdow Barnard [sic], 26, of Bridgeville, died in Thrall Hospital early this morning from a fractured skull received Tuesday evening when he was tripped by a frolicsome calf. At chore time Tuesday Barnard, described as a perfect physical specimen of young manhood by the hospital authorities, left the house to put in the stable a calf which had been tied in a nearby pasture for the day. As Barnard approached the calf it is thought that the rope became entangled about the man's legs and that a sudden jerk by the lively calf threw him heavily to the ground, his head striking a stone. Barnard was later found lying unconscious, the calf browsing nearby. Dr. Ralph Breakey of Monticello was called, and immediately had the man sent to Thrall Hospital. Dr. M. A. Stivers attended the injured man. Barnard is survived by his wife [Philomena Kinney] and one small child. He was well known in Bridgeville, and helped in the postoffice, of which his mother-in-law, Mrs. Will Kenney [sic] is postmistress.
