Alton A. Barnum (23 Apr 1898 - 4 Nov 1969). Lyndonville - Alton A. Barnum, 71, of Yates Center, died last night in Roswell Park Memorial Institute, Buffalo. In poor health for more than a year, he had been hospitalized for the past three weeks. Born April 23, 1898 in Yankton, S.D., he was the son of William and Anna Smith Barnum. The family moved to this vicinity when he was two years old. He married Mary Saxton of Jeddo on April 7, 1933. Mr. Barnum was a member of the Royal Order of Moose of Medina and was a former member of the Lyndonville I.O.O.F. Lodge. He was a painter and later operated his grocery business at Yates Center until he retired.
Surviving besides his wife are four brothers, Lowell, William, Clifton and Irving, all of Lyndonville; one sister, Mrs. Earl (Dorothy) Dunham of Waterport; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the Smythe Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. Richard Billingsley, pastor of the United Presbyterian Church in Lyndonville. Friends may call at the funeral home today (7-9) and tomorrow (2-4,7-9) and burial will be in Lynhaven Cemetery. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
