Notes for Mary Adelaide BARNUM

From the Utica Herald Dispatch, Utica, New York, Wednesday, November 6, 1918: Miss Mary A. Barnum, for nearly 30 years president of the Ladles' Aid Society of the Church of the Reconciliation and for many years a member of the board of managers of the Home for Aged Men and Couples, died at the home of her niece Mrs. William B. Crouse of 261 Genesee Street, at an early hour this morning. Miss Barnum fell and broke her hip six years ago, and since that time her condition had gradually declined. Since August 1 her condition was such that only slight hopes were held for her recovery. Miss Barnum was in her eighty-sixth year. She was born in Utica, a daughter of the late E. S. and Mary Ostrom Barnum. Her education was obtained in Miss Kelly's Seminary and other private schools of this city. She was a lifelong member of the Church of the Reconciliation and for more than half a century was an active member of the Ladies' Aid Society connected with that church.
After her father's death, many years ago, she made her home with her sister, Mrs. I. C. McIntosh, but for the last six years had made her home with her niece, Mrs. William B. Crouse. Miss Barnum was one of the oldest residents of this city and was beloved by all who had the pleasure of her friendship. She was a true Christian woman and her death will be a distinct loss to the community.
Miss Barnum is survived by a sister, Mrs. I. C. McIntosh; and the following nieces: Mrs. W. B. Crouse, Mrs. J. P. Campbell and Mrs. E. P Wilkin of Utica, Mrs. W. D. Pomeroy of Seneca Falls, Mrs. James How, Mrs. Ralph Sidway and Mrs. Frederick Gridley of Buffalo; Mrs. Jennie Williams and Mrs. Marian Cook of Chicago, and the following nephews, George Moulton McIntosh of New York City and Richard Barnum of Evanston, Illinois.
