From the New York Times of Jan. 27, 1939, p. 20: Mrs. F.B.T. Leigh, Kin of P.T. Barnum Last Surviving Granddaughter of Circus Man Dies at 85. Bridgeport, Conn--Jan.26----Mrs. Frances Barnum Thompson Leigh, widow of William B. Leigh and the last surviving granddaughter of Phineas Taylor Barnum, the circus man, died this morning at her home after an illness of about two weeks. Mrs. Leigh was the daughter of the late David. W. Thompson and the late Mrs. Caroline Barnum Thompson, who was the eldest of the Barnum children. She was born at the Thompson home near here on Dec. 17, 1853 and attended Mrs. Day’s School in Bridgeport and Miss Comstock’s School in New York. She was married to William B. Leigh in 1886 at the Church of the Heavenly Rest in New York, of which she was a member. Their only daughter, Nancy Barnum Leigh died in 1910, two years after the death of her father. Since 1911, Mrs. Leigh had made Bridgeport her permanent residence.
