From The Times, Bridgeport, Connecticut, December 30, 1918: The death of William Bushnell Leigh at his home, Elm’s Leigh, at the corner of Waldemere and Iranistan Avenues, marks the passing of one of Bridgeport’s most prominent citizens. Mr. Leigh was 65 [sic 62] years old and retired from active business life about 12 years ago although he kept up his interest in sports, principally trap shooting.
William Bushnell Leigh was the son of William Leigh and Cordelia Banks and was born in Bridgeport where he lived until he was 21 years of age. He then went to New York where he was affiliated with Decker brothers in the manufacture of pianos. When he retired he came to Bridgeport and built the home where his death took place. His wife is Fannie Thompson, the daughter of David Thompson and Caroline Barnum and is the oldest granddaughter of P.T. Barnum. One child, Nancy Barnum Leigh died nine years ago at the age of 20.
