Notes for Melissa Aurora BARNUM


Melissa Aurora Barnum was the daughter of John Barnum and Jane Wilson. Both the Barnum and Wilson families were early settlers of Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania.

Melissa was first married to Hial Heath and they had at least three children, Will, Chloe, and Jennie. Hial Heath was killed during the Civil War as was her brother, Henry Clay Barnum. She then married Elias Wilbur (probably in Broome County, New York). She was the mother of eight children, one of whom died in infancy or early childhood. Melissa died at the age of 86 and is buried in the Floral Park Cemetery in Binghamton, New York.

Mrs. Melissa A. Wilbur died Fri- day at 6:35 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs William Ellsworth, 44 Tompkins street. She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Frank Tinklepaugh of Olean, Mrs. Williston Heath of Hammondsport, Mrs. Peter Terboss of Hallstead and Mrs. Ellsworth, and three sons, Al- den Wilbur of Fairbanks, Alaska, Scott Wilbur and J. Roy Wilbur of this place. The funeral will be held Monday morning at 10:30 o'clock at the home of her daughter. The Rev. Maxwell Morrison will officiate. Burial will be in Floral Park Cemetery.
