Notes for James L. HOYT


James HOYT 1788-1880, b. Hopkinton, Hillsborough County, NH. James Hoyt, son of David Hoyt and Elizabeth Cressey, married Polly Lyon (1811) daughter of James and Mary Lyon. Daughter Melinda Hoyt married Henry Almon Rogers 1844 in Jefferson. Daughter Jane L. Hoyt married Charles Barnum (1850). Charles was the son of Ephraim Paine Barnum. Son James died in Mex. American war, son Luther died Jefferson 1906. James Hoyt was a shoe maker who travelled from farm to farm repairing the old shoes and making new shoes for the farm families. Moved to Strafford, Orange County, VT in 1811; to Jefferson, Ashtabula County, OH in 1814; to Madison, Clark County, OH in 1817; to Jefferson, Ashtabula County, OH in 1825.
