Her parents were David Alexander Cox (born 1 September 1875; d. 1 January 1939, at Whitesboro, Texas) and his wife Julia Sloan (born 7 January 1878; d. 31 July 1970, at Denton, Texas). Leticia Christina was the only wife of Billie Douglas Barnum. Upon marriage, she dropped the name Leticia (which she had never used) and went by Christina Cox Barnum ("Chris" to her friends). She had graduated from North Texas State College and had been a teacher in Texas but, with the build up prior to WWII, she became a secretary for the Air Force. That is how she met Billie Douglas Barnum, at Shepherd Field, Texas during WWII. After moving to Virginia, she became the secretary for the Fairlington Methodist Church. From 1958 until 1975 she taught school (Typing and Business) in Arlington, Virginia. After being a widow for 12 years, she remarried in 1975 to Leo A. Garneau, Saint Mary's Church in Arlington. They had no children.
