From the Kingston, New York Daily Freeman, Monday, April 2, 1962:Â Mrs. Myrtle M. Barnum, 78, of Saugerties died Saturday (March 31) at Kingston, NY. Born in Big Indian (Ulster County, NY) she was the daughter of Elmer and Anna Jenkins Grant. Mrs. Barnum was a member of the Maplecrest Methodist Church. Survivors are three daughters, Gertrude wife of Stanley Kogut of Saugerties, Edna wife of Myron Williams of Esopus, and Welthie wife of Ralph Norris of New Britain, Connecticut; two sons, Claude of Accord and Bethuel of Kerhonkson; 30 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Burial in Maplecrest Cemetery.
Maplecrest (Big Hollow) Cemetery, Town of Windham, Greene County, NY. Section 1. The Maplecrest Cemetery (formerly known as the Big Hollow Cemetery) is located along the west side of County Route 56, three-tenths of a mile from the intersection of County Routes 40 and 56, in the hamlet of Maplecrest, Town of Windham, Greene County, NY. The name of the hamlet was changed from Big Hollow to Maplecrest on May 23, 1921. Burials made prior to that date should be recorded in your genealogical records as having been made in the Big Hollow Cemetery, as that is what will appear on death certificates and in newspaper accounts. Burials made on or after that date should be recorded as taking place in the Maplecrest Cemetery.
