From the Courier-Journal, Louisville, Kentucky, July 5, 1901: Mrs. Libbie Lemon Barnum died yesterday morning at her home 230 East Oak Street. Mrs. Barnum had been ill for two months. Some five weeks ago she underwent an operation, but it seemed to have no good effects. She slowly weakened and passed quietly away.
Mrs. Barnum was the wife of Dr. Joseph P. Barnum, the well-known chemist and druggist. Dr. Barnum has been for some time among the mining districts of Kentucky at Kensee. He practiced medicine among the miners and also made some valuable chemical researches. He was suddenly called home not long ago by the illness of his wife. Mrs. Barnum was born and reared in this city. She was a most devoted and active member of the Fourth Avenue Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Barnum leaves four sons and one daughter, Mr. Whitney Barnum, Mr. Richard Barnum, Mr. Joseph Barnum, Mr. Evarts Barnum and Miss Fayette Barnum. The body will be interred in Cave Hill Cemetery.
