Notes for Dorothy Frances WHITLEY


From the Tallahassee Democrat, May 12, 2013: Dorothy Frances Barnum, age 95, passed away in Tallahassee, Florida on May 7, 2013, after having recent health complications. Before moving to Tallahassee she lived in Springfield, PA., where she was an active member of Covenant Methodist church for over 50 years. Dot, as she was known to her friends, was born and raised in Sedalia, Missouri, the youngest child of Charles and Mary Cecilia Robb Whitley. Prior to World War II, she moved to Philadelphia, PA., where she married Richard Barnum, also of Sedalia. Dot and Richard moved from Philadelphia to Springfield in 1947 where they raised their son and daughter. Dot moved to Tallahassee in 2005 and was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. She was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
Dot is survived by her son, Richard and Lynda Barnum; daughter, Karen and Will Kushto; five grandchildren (Barbara Fry, Stephanie Turner, Brian Barnum, Christopher Kushto, and Andrew Kushto); a niece; and other family members and loved ones, all who cherished her dearly and brought much joy into her life.
Dot is preceded in death by her husband Richard, parents, brother, and sister.
At her request, a private graveside ceremony, followed by interment, will be in Sedalia, MO., alongside her beloved husband, Richard.
