In the 1800 US Census for Sunderland, Bennington County, Vermont, the family of an Israel Barnum was enumerated as two free white males under 10, one 10 thru 15, and one 26 thru 44, as well as 2 free white females under 10, two 10 thru 15, and one 26 thru 44.
In the 1810 US Census for Broome, Schoharie County, New York, the family of an Israel Barnum was enumerated as one free white male under 10, one 10 thru 15, and one 45 and over, as well as 1 free white female under 10, one 10 thru 15, and one 26 thru 44.
It is not known whether the three census records above represent the same individual.
An Israel Barnum served during the Revolutionary War as a Private in the New York Department [Established June 25, 1775, merged into Middle Department, February 27, 1776] commanded by Major General Philip Schuyler. Israel was in the 5th Connecticut Regiment (1775) of Colonel David Waterbury, under Captain Zalmon Read. Zalmon Read was a Captain in the 5th Connecticut from 1 May to 28 Nov 1775 and in Silliman's Connecticut State Regiment from 20 Jun to 25 Dec 1776.
