According to the History of Utah, 1540-1886, by Hubert Howe Bancroft, the village of Peoa was founded in 1860 by a party of ten settlers, and the first house there was built by Henry Barnum and Jacob M. Truman.
In the 1900 US Census for District 139, Peoa, Summit County, Utah he appears as H. J. Barnum, living with the family of his daughter Minerva and son-in-law Joseph Palmer.
In some records of the LDS Church his name is given incorrectly as James Henry Barnum.
