From the Brookshire Times, Waller County, Texas, November 2, 1961: Funeral services for Claiborn W. Barnum were held from the First Methodist Church in Brookshire at 3 o'clock on Tuesday afternoon. Interment was in Pattison Cemetery.
Mr. Barnum died Sunday evening around 9 o'clock after being seriously ill for several months. He was 84 years old on his birthday last Jan. 21. He was born in Missouri and was the son of Albert and Fannie Clark Barnum. He called Collins County his native home, however, and except each spring except this last one, he went back to Lebanon for the settlers’ reunion.
He has lived in Brookshire since Dec. 1927. He married Mrs. Maggie Edmondson Tubbs in 1926. They lived in Dallas a year. His wife died October 21, 1959. Until he became ill he helped his step-daughter, Jimmie Dell Tubbs in Edmondson Drug Store in Brookshire. He was a member of the Methodist Church and was a Mason. Survivors include his brother, Ned Barnum; his sisters, Mrs. J. W. Durham, Mrs. Dixie Sanders, Mrs. Cletus Cain and Mrs. Hubert Cain; his stepchildren L.S. Tubbs, Crystelle Tubbs, Mrs. Aline Mitchell and Jimmie Dell Tubbs, and a number of nieces and nephews.
