Thomas was the first Town Clerk of Middlefield, and was one of the old time Justices of the Peace. He served in the Revolutionary War, came to Middlefield as a young man and lived there the rest of his life, dying when over 80 years of age.
Thomas Jones, 1776, served in the New York campaign in Capt. Thomas Grosvenor's company, Col. John Durkee's regiment. In 1777 he enlisted for three years under Capt. Willis Clift, Col. Samuel Wylly's regiment, which assisted in repelling the enemy at Danbury and reinforced the army on the Hudson.
