Notes for Robert WOODIN

Some sources give his surname as Wooden.
Source: Waterloo NY Observer Gazette, 7 October 1874. From the memoriam of Robert Wooden:

In the town of Waterloo on the 24th ult. Robert Wooden Esq. in his 82nd year. His ancestors came from Wales during the infancy of the American Colonies, settling originally in or near Baltimore, State of Maryland. James W., the father of our subject, served in the last French War and also in the struggle of the American independence. He was discharged from service in this state and having married, settled in or near Newburg, Orange County. He was the father of ten children.

In 1794 he left Orange County with a neighbor, Nicholson, and traveled 4 weeks to reach what is now called Spring Farm of Geneva. His eldest son William went to Rochester when only a single log tavern invited the emmigrant to rest. Robert, whose death we record, in 1812 married Mary Martin. In 1816 he purchased the farm adjoining the homestead of the late Peleg Pierson and previously owned by John Straughan. By his first marriage he was the father of ten children, seven of whom died before him. Two sons, George and James, have been always near him. By his second marriage he was the father of five children, four daughters and one son.
He was buried on his farm in Waterloo.
