Notes for Oliver CASTLE

Oliver Castle was born 8 Apr 1761 in Roxbury, Litchfield County, Connecticut, the son of Samuel Castle and Abigail Northrop. He married, either 17 Dec 1783 (Strong Genealogy) or 17 May 1784 (Cothren's Ancient Woodbury), Thankful Strong, daughter of Captain Benajah Strong and Jane Cochrane (daughter of Samuel Cochrane of Woodbury). Oliver and Thankful had two children. Oliver died 17 June 1786 at the young age of 25. He made a will. The handwriting was shaky, as he was apparently ill and very weak at that time. He appointed his father, Samuel, as the executor. He gave his youngest son, Oliver his silver shoe buckles. Thankful married 2nd, 11 Sept 1788, Joel Bacon and had 4 children by that marriage. They moved to Genoa, Cayuga County, New York and Amos and Oliver were raised there. Thankful died 26 Nov 1836 in Cayuga County, New York. The Strong Genealogy lists both Amos and Oliver as being Baptist Clergymen. Originally, it appears, they were of the First Congregational Church, then when their father died young their mother, who was a Baptist by birth, probably raised them as such. Her second husband, Joel, was a Baptist also. The children of Oliver and Thankful were: Amos, b. 24 Sept 1784 in Roxbury, Connecticut, d. 24 Aug 1819, m. 20 Sep 1806 Lydia Niles; and Oliver, b. 1 June 1786 in Roxbury, Connecticut.
